We start with seal and send invitations. This is the simplest of all wedding invitations. You have the invitation attached to the respond card by a mere perforation. The recipient will use the return postcard to confirm or decline the invitation. This is a fairly cheap option but not suitable for formal weddings. If you are considering inviting very high profile personalities, then you cannot use this option.

Sometimes, your wedding invitation card would be too crammed with words. There will be no space to give your reception details. That is when you use the reception card. The reception card gives the guests information about the venue, time and order of events. The reception card can be put in the same envelope as the main invitation. It can be printed on a cheap stationery to reduce costs without affecting the elegance. If you do not want to invite everyone to the wedding reception, then you can mail the reception invitation separately. If the reception will take place at the wedding hall, it is often assumed that you want everyone present to partake in the reception so in that case you need not send out invitation at all.

For very formal weddings, protocol requires that you send the respond cards separately. The respond cards will indicate how many people will attend so you can plan your food, seating and parking accordingly.
