Wedding Etiquette for Guests
Did you know that even guests have wedding invitation etiquette to follow? Here are some wedding invitation etiquette guidelines for guests.
To be invited, you would receive wedding invitations. Be sure to inform the couple that you will be attending their wedding. Word-of-mouth is easily forgotten, especially when they have lots of things to take care of for their wedding. Make sure you put your RSVP down in print. Also, make sure you RSVP before the “Reply by” date. There are certain decisions that may be affected by your presence.
You should also not bring a companion with you unless your invitation specifies that you may bring one. If the invitation states “+ Guest”, you may bring along a companion, whether it is your date, a relative, or a child. Do not bring more people than invited. The couple would have to bear the cost for paying for each additional seat. If you have no companion that will be following, also notify the couple. That empty seat can be given to others in case of any last-minute changes.
Also, some wedding invitations have wedding themes where specific dress codes are required. The invitations would usually state that dress code, so be sure to follow it. You would not want to go in pants and suits when everyone is going as cowboys or cowgirls. The couple will be appreciative if you were to go with the flow, so to create their dream wedding.
Apart from that, when you accept an invitation, be sure to give the couple a gift during the reception. Remember, it is a gift for the couple, not just one of them. If they have just moved into a new place together, you may consider getting them something they can both make use of, and might need. On the other hand, if they have been living together for a while now, chances are that they already have what they need. Thus, you might want to consider giving them gift certificates or cash. Cash gifts will also be suitable for those who came to the town just for the wedding, only to fly off later. This way, they do not need to bring extra baggage with them when they return.
Hopefully, following these guidelines will help you become the guest every couple hope for. You would want a perfect guest for your wedding, too.
