How to Throw an Elegant Wedding
There are so many ways you can create a beautiful and elegant event, but here is an example of one cohesive vision, down to the details! The keywords for this particular vision are: simplicity and neutrals. Stick to whites, soft pinks and peaches for your color scheme, focusing predominantly on white. Have your invitations calligraphed in black letterpress on very thick white cardstock. Choose a gown without a lot of glam and beading, and stick instead to lace and ruffles; similarly, dressing your bridesmaids in lace (perhaps a peach or champagne color?) would be extraordinarily beautiful. Have your wedding in a church or chapel, and stick with softer blooms like roses, baby’s breath, peonies, carnations and hydrangeas. Line your aisle with white feathers, and place a trunk of feathers near the church door to shower for guests to throw instead of rice.
When it comes to the reception, keep it simple—a jazz trio or pianist would be a great musical addition to your cocktail hour or dinner (make sure to separate dinner and dancing—you want your guests to feel like they have had a restaurant experience!). Have a calligrapher write escort cards on simple white cardstock (and place cards as well). Dress your tables simply also, with white linens and white chiavari chairs, and white plates. For the meal, don’t go overboard with the amounts—just serve a limited quantity of truly elegant food (sample three-course menu: seared wagyu beef; lobster; wedding cake). Package flavored homemade marshmallows in pretty bags or boxes to give as favors, and adorn your tables with loads and loads of candles—think candelabras instead of votives. Fill baskets in the rest room with perfumes and pretty customized matchboxes. And here’s a wow-factor suggestion—hire ballet dancers to perform a number or two!
And a stunning end to the evening? All-white fireworks.
