DIY Wedding Invitations Not Hard On The Mind

October 12th, 2010 Elaine Posted in Wedding Ideas, Wedding Invitations Explained, Wedding Planning No Comments »

The Do It Yourself mentality probably started in the field of home improvement and is now pervasive in all forms of use. Weddings are not spared the treatment as many want to inject a personal touch which commercially-produced elements fail to do so. Alternatively, this is also a great method to bring down costs as there is nothing like rolling up one’s sleeves to work on one’s own time instead of paying someone else to do the same thing.

DIY wedding invitations are probably featured the most as they make sense. More often than not, the bridal couple performs a gross injustice of mulling over a hundred types of invitation cards, possibly ending up in a pre-marital dispute. It may be better to put the same heads to work on an invitation which depicts their feelings for one another as well as to those being invited. Since this is the formal indication of the impending occasion, its aesthetics need some careful attention. If the bride is into flowers, spices and all things nice, whereas the groom is a sports mania, some work is needed to draw a merging of souls and taste.

The quantum of invitations also dictates the complexity and time to be spent on creating the card. If there is to be some art craft or handiwork in the makings, it may be a good idea to rope in the bridesmaids to help out. Albeit folding origami flowers may incur a paper cut or two, this personal touch can be time spent well. Perhaps incorporating this activity as part of the bridal shower may be an idea worth toying with.

Since the fridge door is normally the bulletin board in most homes, adding a functional yet cheap element to DIY wedding invitations make the perfect fridge magnet. This way, there is no excuse in forgetting one’s wedding nor misplacing of the card. Whoever said one needed to be a rocket scientist to send man to the moon? All it takes is intent observation and careful deduction, hence the zero effect.

Wedding Invitations Designs That Say More

September 28th, 2010 Elaine Posted in Wedding Ideas, Wedding Invitations Ideas, Wedding Theme and Style No Comments »

In toying with ideas for wedding invitations designs, perhaps a good place to start is the commonality shared between the bridal couple. To avoid any conflicting taste, discuss on what the invitation is meant to project about the couple to the invitees. Other than the usual bits of information such as names, date, time and venue stamped out by a desktop publishing application, this simple piece of stationery is able to speak much more.

In cases whereby either side of the bride and groom has not met the spouse-to-be, including a tasteful and elegant picture of the couple as part of the invitation’s motive or as an insert is ideal. This then allows the guests to identify the other half as and when they meet. Although there is no cause for embarrassment, it does not serve well for guests to congratulate someone else other than the groom. If personal pictures are not on the menu, perhaps a picture of a place with significant meaning to both bride and groom is more suitable. The spot whereby the question was popped or the place where both first cast eyes on one another always make an ideal romantic tale.

Selecting off-the-shelf cards are ideal to keep the wedding budget in check. Since these wedding invites designs tend to be run-of-the-mill, add a personal feel to the process. Taking some time to include a short but personal message before sending out the cards speaks heaps about the couple. In the event too much time and effort is needed to pen the short note, use one of the many desktop publishing applications to deliver the result. A calligraphy pen or Chinese brush and ink can also be used if the numbers are not too intimidating. Alternatively, personally sign each and every card to lend the same effect and put a smile on every guest’s face. Many a time, invitations are tossed after the ceremony. A beautifully designed card may end up being a souvenir of the occasion as everyone appreciates the thought and work put into making it.
