Wedding Invitation Wording Without Stepping On Any Toes

July 16th, 2010 Elaine Posted in Wedding Etiquette, Wedding Ideas, Wedding Invitations Style, Wedding Planning, Wedding Theme and Style No Comments »

When phrasing your wedding invitation wording, it is critical to keep a few factors in mind. Although the more commonly seen wedding invitations tend to revolve around western designs and styles, it’s important to understand customs and traditions. As a sign of respect, custom wedding invitations need to be acknowledged and observed without causing conflicts between the bridal couple, and within their families. History and current settings need to be considered as part of this process. Wordings for first-time weddings will differ from those who are revisiting the wedding altar.

The first line of the wedding invitations wording normally sets the tone. This usually signifies the host of the wedding invitation who, more often than not, is the paymaster. Sometimes it may be either or both parents of the couple. Other times, it may be the bridal couple. Some occasions may require separate sets of cards to different recipients due to varying circumstances. Whichever the case, it’s imperative for names of all concerned, date, time, venue and other bits of important wedding details to be clearly printed on the card. It’s also recommended to include driving instructions or map for out-of-town relatives and friends. Sometimes, dietary preferences are requested for catering purposes.

Some wording classics include a poem or verse from a favorite song or book. Whether the ceremony is to be held at a religious venue or by the beach, wording for custom wedding invitations sets the mood. At times, the bridal couple may include a preference of wedding gifts. Some bridal couples set up a wedding gift register to avoid the dilemma of multiple gifts of the same kind, or more commonly known as the ten toasters and blenders syndrome. Other times, they may prefer cash to gifts, thus need to gracefully indicate their preference.

Since weddings are family functions, it’s therefore appropriate to invite the whole family. As a good wedding tip, draw up an invitation list between the bridal couple. This helps in confirming spelling of names and assessing number of invitations required, without missing out a favorite aunt or former school mates. This list is also vital in ascertaining venue size, catering, parking and a whole host of other wedding tasks. In other words, it’s a basis for budget planning without skipping any wedding details.

Wedding Invitation – Choosing The Right Wordings

December 8th, 2009 Elaine Posted in Wedding Etiquette, Wedding Ideas, Wedding Invitations Explained, Wedding Invitations Ideas, Wedding Planning No Comments »

Planning a wedding is not an easy task. That is why if you are thinking of getting married, you may want to begin your preparations months before the Big Day. Choosing a wedding invitation alone can take up a lot of your time, and you wouldn’t be able to make a wise choice when you are pressed for time already.

shf030

Most brides-to-be are concerned with how their wedding invitation will look. They spend so much time poring over the style, design, materials and other embellishments. These are very important, of course, but you also need to pay attention to the other details of the invitation — the wordings. People tend to take the wordings for granted because they have not come to realize that wordings do make quite an impression. Wordings, of course, include the text and the font style.

Since weddings are formal events, your wordings must convey formality, too. The Old English script is a common choice of font for traditional wedding invitations, but for modern invites, there can be plenty of other choices. An important consideration when choosing a particular font, besides the formality factor, is clarity. There are many font styles that look absolutely attractive, but they can be difficult to understand. Go for something simple, instead, a style that will not give your guests an eyestrain.

Traditional invitations often contain verses that are appropriate to weddings, but these are not a requirement. Some invitations are so wordy they don’t make any sense at all. What you shouldn’t miss are your names, the date of the wedding, and the venue.

Choosing the right wordings has been made easier now with the availability of wedding invitation catalogs. Once you have made your choice, ask for a draft copy of the invitation before finalizing your order. Go over the words one by one and have someone else go over them, too, so you can be certain that the details, including the spelling, are all correct.

Wedding Invitations for an After Wedding Reception

November 9th, 2009 Elaine Posted in Wedding Etiquette, Wedding Ideas, Wedding Invitations Explained, Wedding Invitations Ideas, Wedding Invitations Style No Comments »

Many couples are choosing a destination wedding as the best way to exchange vows. Destination weddings are often planned at tropical places where only a few friends and family members are able to attend. After the destination wedding, a large reception for the remaining friends and family members is often planned. Sending out wedding reception invitations is the best way to inform people about your after wedding reception.

The wedding and reception plans will take place with a destination wedding in much the same way as a traditional wedding. The only difference is when the invitations will be sent out and the information listed on the wedding invitation.

Wedding invitations sent out for a reception only celebration will be sent out 3 to 4 weeks before the event. Depending on the date of the wedding, this could mean ordering and sending out the reception wedding invitations well after the wedding vows have been exchanged.

The information on the wedding reception invitation will include the date of the wedding and the time and place of the wedding reception. Some couples even choose to include a picture of the wedding couple during the destination celebration. This picture can be printed and added to the inside of the wedding invitation as opposed to printed on the wedding invitation itself.

Other information that may be included in the wedding invitation for the after wedding reception may include the theme of the wedding, poems from the couple and additional information about the reception such as menu items to be served during the wedding reception.

Because plenty of money was saved by planning a destination wedding, the couple will have more than enough money to order professional wedding invitations. These invitations will invite guests to your big celebration in style with a grace most traditional weddings offer.

As the guest gets list longer, you want to be able to accommodate all of her friends and family as well as yours. Following a few key tips may help you decide the perfect location for your perfect day.

Convenience: Remember, it’s not just you and your bride that you have to keep in mind; it’s all your guests as well. Make sure wherever the destination it’s a place that everyone can make time in their schedule to get to. People love weddings –love seeing the ones they care about with the person of their dreams. But let’s be real, everyone wants a party at the end. Make sure that you consider proximity.

How to Address Your Wedding Invitations

October 29th, 2009 Elaine Posted in Wedding Etiquette, Wedding Ideas, Wedding Invitations Explained, Wedding Invitations Ideas 2 Comments »

When addressing the envelopes for the wedding invitation, the outer envelope is the most formal. The address on the inner envelope used for the response card does not have to be as formal. The formality of the envelope address will also vary depending on who is receiving the wedding invitation.

shf037

If the wedding invitation is being address to a couple, the formal approach would utilize the name “Mr. and Mrs. So-in-so”. This style of address formality will only be used for wedding invitations being sent to guests who are not personal friends or close relatives. For close relatives and family friends, the wedding invitation will be addressed to the name you use during conversation.

For couples who are not married, but are together, the name style changes a bit. The Mrs. is replaced by a Miss and the woman’s name is listed first. For instance, Miss Love and Mr. So-in-so. Single women should also be addressed as Miss unless they commonly use the term Ms.

To invite additional people in the family, such as children or a guest of the attendants choice, the terms “and Children” or ” and Guest” should be added to the name line of the outer address label. Professional titles should also be used on the outer envelope of a formal wedding invitation. These can include Dr., Sgt. or some other form of title.

The inner envelope does not have to be as formal. The main address on the inner envelope will be the wedding couple’s with the return address being printed as the address only with no name. Some couples choose to leave the return address blank if sufficient postage is assured by the postal service.

Formality is important to many couples when addressing their wedding invitations. Printing these invitations through a professional printer is the best choice, but make sure the list of guests is finalized before ordering.

When Should You Order and Send Your Wedding Invitations

October 15th, 2009 Elaine Posted in Wedding Etiquette, Wedding Ideas, Wedding Invitations Explained, Wedding Invitations Ideas 1 Comment »

The wedding invitations can be ordered as soon as all of the wedding plans are set in stone. This means more than CHOOSING the details. A deposit needs to be placed on the reception hall and the church reserved before the wedding invitations can be printed (if these details are being used for your wedding). There is nothing worse than ordering a set of beautiful professional wedding invitations only to have them arrive and one of the venues have changed.

shf019

Once the details are solid, the invitations can be ordered. There should be no less than four months before the wedding date when the invitation order is placed. This gives the couple enough time to send the invitations out the calligrapher for personalization or to address the envelopes at home. Time also needs to be allowed for proofing the wedding invitations before the final prints are made. The proof will offer a glimpse of the final design.

Sending the Wedding Invitations

The wedding invitations need to be sent no later than six weeks before the wedding date. If the guests are located out of town or will need to travel to the wedding location, they wedding invitations should be mailed eight weeks in advance. Some modern couples are choosing to supplement their professional wedding invitations with a website and an email update list of things happening in the wedding plans. This keeps the guests interested in attending the wedding and reminds them of the date on a regular basis.

The wedding invitations need to be sent out with enough time for the response cards to be returned and accounted for. Many times, the bakery and catering service will require a final guest count well in advance and without the response cards, the couple will have to guess how many people will be attending the reception.
